Baby it's cold outside layout - Lisa Fonseca

Hey friends,
it's Lisa back on the blog today and I'm sharing a super cute layout with a brand new cutfile.
The cutfile I'm using is called FRESH CUT TREES and is available on the THE CUT SHOPPE website.

In fact the cutfile is made of four rows of trees, all on top of each other. What I did was cut it out two times. One time filling the 12x12 sheet, one time a bit smaller. So I had big and smaller trees. I cut the cutfile apart and used two rows of each.
First I backed them with pretty patterned papers from the Crate Paper Snowflake collection. Then I positioned them on the paper, always using two rows, that I superposed in a way that the bigger trees would overlap the smaller trees a bit. I also used foam dots to adhere the bigger trees, to create dimension.

Then I used another cutfile for my title, which is called WINTER IS COMING. I cut out the letters from white cardstock and placed them on patterned paper before cutting them out, leaving a colored border. The word 'cold' I backed in the traditional way.

I really love the effect it gives with the different fonts and different colors.
I matted my photo with five or six scraps of paper and adhered it to the layout, in between the rows of trees. I also created a frame for the layout, using a pretty patterned paper. Then I went through my embellishments and used stars and some animals to pimp my pretty layout.

To finish the layout, I splattered some gold ink in some places.

I really love this tree cutfile because, as I did, you can use it in so many different ways. You can use it as is, or cut the trees as you like and need them on your layout. The phrase cutfile is also very fun. It's meant to be used in a traveler's notebook, but I switched it up and used it on my layout. So, as you can see, you only need a bit of imagination and your options are endless :)

See you soon!

Mele Kalikimaka layout - Lisa Fonseca

Hey scrappy people,

it's Lisa back on the blog to share this layout with you.

For this layout, I used a new cutfile called LET IT SNOW from the CutShoppe. It's a snowflake wreath and it's so cute.
I had the idea to cut it out of two different colored cardstock sheets and adhered it to a pretty, matching background. In my stash, I found this cool green paper from Pinkfresh Studio and thought that those two pink shades would match perfectly. I used them to cut out my cutfile but also to create a frame for my layout. I stitched around the frame in a zigzag, using pink thread.

So when I had my two wreaths cut out, I adhered them to the background, paying attention to only put glue in the middle of each snowflake, so that later, I could create texture by pulling up the little branches. I love the effect it gives with the darker color peaking out from behind the lighter one.

I used the same two colors to matte my photo and adhered the picture to the background using adhesive foam. I also used two older gold glitter frames behind the photo. Then I went through the rest of my Snow and Cocoa collection and used all the things that I thought would be cute.

For my title, I used three different kinds of Thickers. I wrote "Mele Kalikimaka", which means "Merry Christmas" in Hawaiian. In the picture I'm in Oahu and even if it doesn't look like it, it was the 23th of December :)

I wanted to add more sparkle, so I used four different colors of sequins and adhered them to the little holes in the snowflakes. I also used white puffy hearts in each of the snowflakes' centers. I finished by using some white snowflakes to lighten up the wreath and also some black splatters to balance the darkness of the photo.

I hope you like it and are inspired to use this new cutfile.

Thank you so much for stopping by, see you soon!

"Love" A Minimalistic Layout with Neftali

Hello there crafty ladies! It’s Neftali back again to share a fun and simple layout with you today. This time I thought I would share a simple technique that would encourage those crafters that might feel a little intimidated to use cutfiles in their layouts. I thought I could share a fun way to make your cutfile use simple, quick, and in no time at all.

But first, here is my layout:

I used the Leaf It To Me cutfile available in the shop.

I sized it down on my Silhouette Studio to fit 4 copies on one 12x12 sheet. This left me with 12 total leaves to work with.

So, as my title suggests, this is very much a minimalist layout which took me no longer than 20 minutes to complete. I wanted to be able to share with you how you don’t necessarily have to spend so much time creating with cut files.

Occasionally, I feel that it can feel a little intimidating thinking that, on top of cutting time, you’ll have to spend many hours backing a cut file. Although the results are worth every minute, there are also options to create something stunning but simple. So I went for it!

I loved the idea of keeping a monochromatic feel to my layout, so I cut the leaves on white card stock and scrapped them atop a textured white card stock. Before I added my embellishments on the page I used the packaging technique to add a very subtle amount of color with silver mist. Then I splattered some gold mist.

Now came the easy part, I simply backed my photo with an ephemera piece from the Crate Paper flourish collection and attached it to the center of my page.

I began to add my leaves on top and below my image so that they created a triangle shaped on each each. I layered them on top of each other and used wet glue at the stems so that they would keep some good ol’ dimension.

Next, I cut an old Pink Paislee Moonstruck journal card in half and added that to the left and right side of my image to fill in those big gaps. I was surprised that this year old collection matched so well with the other Crate Paper card.

Finally, I brought out the Flourish gold puffy stickers and added some more pops of gold by sticking some vines and leaves randomly around the clusters.

My title was placed at the bottom of my page with the word “Love” because I love the selfie of myself!

That was it, friends! This layout came together super quick and I still feel like the cut file I used kicked a punch as much as when I back them with bright colors.

So are you guys inspired to create something quick, easy, and fun with the cut files available in the TCS shop? I hope I’ve inspired you to try something new!

Thanks for stopping by today, I will be back soon with more inspiration! Xo

"Butterflies" with Kira

Hello crafty friends!  Kira here with another scrapbook layout.  I have been obsessively visiting The Cut Shoppe to find the ~perfect~ cut file...but with so many choices, it's kind of hard to decide.  But I had visions of butterflies with this one.

I used the Social Butterfly cut file, but deleted all but one butterfly when importing into my design software.  Then I upload the single butterfly a second time to create a template to back the butterfly.  I used white textured cardstock to cut out the outlined butterflies and then a variety of papers in shades of orange, greens, and teals to cut out the backings.

I wanted the butterflies to be layered on top of each other so I cut twice as many "backings" as I did outlines.  And I wanted a variety of sizes so I cut them between 1.5" and 2.2". Once I had everything cut out, I started placing the layers together.

Then I machine stitched down the centers of all the butterflies with white thread on some and aqua thread on others.  I left the excess thread on the butterflies and tangled it on top of their bodies for a little added texture.  Then I folded the wings to give them a little dimension.

I decided to scrapbook this picture of my husband with our youngest son as they sat on a park bench together.  Seriously, how adorable are these two?  The title came easy, because, no joke, these two give me butterflies.

I can never get enough of a wood grain background and I like the "outdoorsy" neutral it provides.  But I craved a little pop of color, so I placed it on this navy blue floral paper.  To give it a little more texture, I distressed the edges and tore to spots on the side.  I tucked some thread beneath one of the tears and a butterfly beneath the other.  I stapled down the flaps to give it another added bit of texture.

I finished off the page by stitching over the foam thickers with some aqua thread.  And added the date stamp and called my page done!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
