Beautiful Day Mini Album with Kira

Hello again friends!  It's Kira and I am back with something a little different today...a mini album!  I had decided to make my mother in law a mini album for Christmas, but after printing a ridiculous amount of photos, I decided I needed to start making them for her quarterly.

I started by digging through my scrap box for papers.  I had so many beautiful papers in there that I had completely forgot about!  I kept my choices very eclectic since my photos did not follow a specific theme, they were just snapshots of my kids from August 2017 until October 2017.

Since the only "theme" I had in my mini album was the months I took the photos (does that even count as a theme?), I decided to use the Year Round cut file from The Cut Shoppe.  I cut out August, September and October and the circular shape of these cut files inspired the layout of my mini album.

I cut out basic circles sized to 5.5" in the various scrap papers I found in my stash.  I cut the Year Round cut files out at 5" each in textured white cardstock.  Each month got decorated in various ways, hand stitching, machine stitching, lots of texture...you name it.

Since I was sticking with the circular format in my mini album, I looked for more circular cut files to use from The Cut Shoppe.  I loved the fun shapes in the Full Circle cut file and decided to cut a few of those to add to my pages.  One of them I just layered on top of some pattern paper and embellished simply.  I really like the additional texture it adds to the page.

Another page using the Full Circle cut file was backed with a variety of paper scraps and used as more of an accent page to my mini.

I had a few pictures of my son and MIL on some carnival rides so it seemed pretty obvious that I should use the Midway cut file.  I cut out "carnival ride" in some pretty floral paper and machine stitched it to the page.

I wanted as much texture in this mini album as possible, so I cut out the Arrows with Attitude cut file and sized it to 6x6.  I used a tiny bit of adhesive to adhere it to one of the 5.5" pattern paper circles and then machine stitched down each vertical line and all around the edge of the page.  I added a photo and some minimal embellishing.

I created the cover using the "beautiful day" phrase from the Working Title cut file.  I cut it on white textured cardstock and then used watercolors to coordinate with one of the floral papers I was using.  I machine stitched it to a vellum circle to give it some additional texture.

You can see a complete flip through of this mini album here.

Thanks for stopping by!

Guest Designer | Christin Gronnslett

Hello Cut Shoppe fans!  We are excited to introduce you to our December Guest Designer, Christin Gronnslett!  If you haven't seen Christin's work before, then you are missing out!  She creates gorgeous mixed media designs and we couldn't wait to have her play with some of the cut files from The Cut Shoppe Etsy store.  Before we take a look at Christin's layout, let's get to know a little bit more about her.

http://umenorskan.blogspot.com/

Hello !  My name is Christin Grønnslett. I am 42 years old and I live in Norway with my husband and two kids (9 and 7) . I have been scrapbooking since 2002, but it wasn’t until 2009 after my daughter was born that I started scrapbooking on a daily basis.  I started out with very clean and simple style, I really wanted to use lots of flowers and lots of stuff on my layouts, but all those flowers that I bought just never made it to my pages… I still use cardstock as my base and in a way I have stayed true to my style. Practice have made me bolder with color and I add more layers of paper and now also more layers of mixed media.  Even though I am considered a mixed media scrapper I actually don’t like things getting too messy - that is why I NEVER use the spray on mists. I am all about controlled mixed media and all though as you will see in my video I can’t always control the paint when I drop it onto my cardstock, there is not so much mess to clean up and I can keep my desk messy with lots of stuff instead.   My passion lies in 12x12 layouts and I love to find the color products to match and enhance the photos I want and the materials I have at hand. Another thing about my style is that you will almost never see me fill an entire page; I need my white space, and that is why I use wither white cardstock or watercolor paper. Words that have been used to describe my style are:  artsy, whimsical, fresh and colorful.   I don’t consider myself an artist, I am just one of those girls who likes to play with both color products and paper. I don’t like doing art journaling - for me that has absolutely no purpose, and the same reason why you don't see many home decor projects on my Instagram account.

Thanks so much for joining us Christin!  Let's take a look at what Christin created!

I love to use cut files, but since I just recently got a Cameo 3 and have been stuck with my old Silhouette from 2009 I have been used to cut out smaller pieces of the cut files and that is also what I have done here.   I have used The Arrrows with Attitude cut file on this layout. I cut it out a little smaller. I used a watercolor paper to both make the background and to cut out the arrows.  I like to cut my files out in white to lighten my layout.

WOW!! What a great idea to use the Arrows with Attitude cut file as a layering piece, Christin! And the colors on the layout are fantastic!

Make sure you check out all of Christin's social media links, above in her bio. And head over to her Blog, so you can follow her and keep up with all of the new inspiration!

Adventure Awaits

Hello everyone!

Nathalie here sharing a new layout  for the Cut Shoppe featuring two cut files, the new Brush Up Alpha, and the Arrows with Attitude cut files.

I started this layout by sketching some circles in the center of the page, and welded the Brush Up Alpha around the outer circle to create the title.  I used the sketch pens to draw the designs, and use a piercing tool to create the stitching guide on the page.  I used a few hours of Netflix to complete the stitched design.

To bring attention to the picture, I played around with the Arrows with Attitude cut file to create the cut-outs in this page.  I am using the new Bella Blvd.  Alex Collection to back the cut-out arrows.

To complete the layout, I added a few details around the picture, and my journal lines below the picture.   I really like the final look of this layout, and I hope you draw some inspiration from it.

Thank you for visiting the blog today, and don't forget to check the Cut Shoppe Etsy Store to find these, and the new cut files that were just released -they are beautiful-.

See you all soon!

I Love What You Do

Hi everyone, Michelle W here again.  My next DT layout has two different cut files from the store.

On my layout today, I have first misted my white cardstock background in Teal using a Heidi Swapp Shine Mist to match in with my colour choices in my photo and patterned paper.  I then cut the Arrows with Attitude cut file also in white cardstock and outlined it in black pen.  I then started layering all my patterned papers and photos and embellishments.  To create another layer I then also cut some of the arrows from the Target Practice Cut file and coloured these lightly in orange and pink to again match in with the colours on my layout.

You may have noticed I love using white cardstock to cut out my Cut Shoppe cut files for several reasons, firstly I have lots of it and it is so easy and economical to use; and I like that I can add extra layering elements on my layouts without feeling like I am overwhelming my photos and embellishments.

I hope you have enjoyed my layout share today and I hope I have inspired you to start layering cut files onto your layouts.

Guest Designer Missy Whidden

Our Guest Designer today, has been one of my good scrappy friends for a long while now, and we even live in connecting states!!

http://littlenuggetcreations.blogspot.com/

Missy Whidden does some amazing Mixed Media looks on her layouts, using mists, watercoloring and fabulous layers.  And she also incorporates amazing die cuts, using her Silhouette Cameo, so let's find out more about Missy and take a look at what she created with some files from The Cut Shoppe!

Hi there, scrappers!  My name is Missy Whidden, and I’m from Florida.  I started scrapping about eight years ago.  My mother-in-law asked me to help her make a baby book for my husband just before our first daughter was born.  I was instantly hooked!  My style has really changed since using just stickers and deco scissors, although those were very cool back then!  I love incorporating mixed media into my scrapbook pages, especially watercolors.  I love working with die cuts and patterned paper.  Honestly, I’ve never met a scrappy supply I didn’t love.  I currently design for My Mind’s Eye, Chickaniddy Crafts, My Scraps & More and Creative Scrappers.  I love scrapping for the sake of documenting memories, but it’s also therapeutic for me.  The creative aspect of it just makes me so happy!  I love working with photos of my family and friends, and I hope my work somehow inspires others to create something awesome!  Thank so you so much to Ashley and The Cut Shoppe for having me!

How seriously amazing is that background Missy created, using the Arrows with Attitude background cut file!!  I love the pop of White, over the amazing mix of colors in the background and the cute doodling she added between the chevron openings!

Thank you so much for creating for us this month, Missy!!  You can continue to follow Missy's work by visiting her Blog, Little Nugget Creations, and also find all of her Social Media links!
