One cut file...Two layouts!

Happy Saturday everyone! This is Sheri and sadly, I'm posting my last project for the design team. The Cut Shoppe has always been my favorite shop for cut files so I know I will continue using them for a long time.

For my post today, I decided to do two layouts! Yes two! I am showing how you can use one cut file but get two very different results.

Here are the completed layouts:

Both files were created using the newly released Queen of Hearts 12x12 cut file.

For the first layout, I used the cut file as a stencil and applied a pretty thick layer of texture paste over the cut file. I immediately removed the cut file from the page and let it dry. It took a bit of time, so I just left to do things around the house and came back to it later.
Then I was able to apply my watercolor and spray mist splatters over the texture for a great contrast!

This is one of my favorite ways to use cut files! You get a totally different look than from just using the cut file itself! Give it a try!

I then took that same cut file, covered in the texture paste, and used it on my next layout. I really liked how the paste gave the cut file texture instead of it just being a flat look. I didn't even realize that until I started working with it. I love how using it white on white gives it a very lacy feel to the layout.

I also used the Funky Florals cut file for this layout.

You can see one of the flowers is the actual cut file and one has been cut out after using the cut file as a stencil and applying texture paste. Again, two different looks...one cut file.

Here is the process video for two layouts if you'd like to check it out!

I just want to thank Ashley for this incredible opportunity to be a part of an amazing team. It has been an amazing experience and I can't wait to see all the wonderful creativity of the new team!

Back to School!

Hello again! This is Sheri and I have a fun back to school layout to share with you. It's hard to believe that summer is ending in most places and the kiddos are heading back to school. Since I don't have school aged children anymore, I had to bug my sister to get back to school photos of my nieces who just returned this past week. I couldn't wait to use the new cut files just released this past week!

So here is my layout! I used the star circle from the Scribble Scrabbles set for my photo frames. The other elements are from the School Rules set. Isn't that pencil just adorable? I had to use that and of course, had to paint it like a pencil! I'm a sucker for school supplies!

On the Back to School and 2015-2016 cutout, I created an offset cut to use behind the cut outs so they stand out a little better. With that striped paper, it helped ground those cuts a little better.

Here's a close up of the Scribble Scrabble circles. Aren't they cute? They look almost handdrawn and I love that effect.

Oh that pencil! I just love it.

I do have a process video for this layout if you'd like to watch. Here it is:

Thanks so much for stopping by! Can't wait to see what you do with your back to school photos!

"Let's Do This"

Happy Saturday! I'm excited to share a layout with you today using two of our newly released cut files! I say this everytime, but I really love these files! I saw those Graffiti cut files and knew I wanted to use those right away!

For this layout I used the Sideways Chevron cut file but I turned it and used it going up and down instead of sideways. I also used the new Graffiti Greetings cut file and used it for my title.

Here's a few close ups. I love the brushstroke look that borders the cut file. I used a fine black marker to outline the letters on the background paper so it would pop a bit more. I like that effect sometimes.

Here's you can get a closer look on the Sideways Chevron cut file, I love how the patterned paper peeks through. I don't adhere it completely down so that parts of it can have some dimension.

New files are being added to the shop every week so make sure you check out The Cut Shoppe store and see what is new! There are soooo many great files to choose from.

I've got a process video if you'd like to see how it all came together!

Have a great weekend!

Jam Session

Hello and happy Saturday! I hope you're enjoying your summer! Time is flying by and the kids will be back in school before we know it!

I'm so excited to share a layout with you today that I made using the most recent release in the shop, just released this past Thursday. My little grandson loves music! He always plays his guitar and likes to rehearse with the big guys! See why I knew these would be perfect?

Here's my layout!

I'm using the "Let's Make Music" set. Is it not just the coolest set of cut files? I fell in love when I saw them and knew I would use them on a layout right away!

I used three different elements from this set on the layout. Of course, the guitar, the title and the stars. I just love how well they all worked together!

Go over to the shop and check out these fabulous new designs along with the others just released! I can't wait to see what you come up with using them!

Every Picture Has A Story

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you had a great weekend! This is Sheri and I'm here today to share a new layout with you. I love the cut files on this one and the title was perfect for the occasion.

I wanted to capture the first time my grandson picked and brought me a "flower". It was so precious and he was so proud. I'm just glad I thought to grab my phone and take a quick picture as he was handing it to me.

Here's my layout:

For this layout, I used four different cut files. The first one is what I used for the title. It's from the "Stay Focused" set. The arrow next to the title was cut from the "Target Practice" set. This is one of my favorite sets because it is so versatile. I print a lot of the elements in this set to use on Project Life and fillers for layouts.

The third was from the same set "Stay Focused" and it was the round "Smile" cut file.

The fourth cut file was the background behind the photo. It is called "Squared Away".
I used the 8 1/2 x 11 size since I was cutting it down to 9 squares. This allowed for the hearts to be in even squares.

I hope this inspired you to try multiple cut files on a single layout. It really adds a lot of interest and just an extra touch!  Have a great day!

(NOTE: I do have a process video for this layout however I have lost my voice so I'm not able to complete the narration. Boo! Anyway, I will get it uploaded as soon as I have my voice back and can talk again!)

"You & Me"

Happy Sunday everyone! This is Sheri and I'm so excited to be sharing a layout with you today as this is my first official post since joining The Cut Shoppe Design Team. I am so enjoying being on the team and just want to say thank you for making me feel so welcome!

Today I'm sharing a layout I created using the All Heart Remix cut file and the This and That cut file. I took the All Heart Remix file and cut it in half and used it on one side of the page.
You can cut your file either in your software so it only cuts half of the file or you can cut the entire piece and cut it in half with scissors and you'll have the other side for another project. Either way, you'll get the same result. I chose to back the hearts with patterned paper from the Amy Tangerine Rise and Shine collection. I just love how versatile these cut files are!

Again, here are the cut files I used on this layout:

Make sure you head over to the shop and grab them...and any others you find!
Have a great Sunday! Hope you get some creative time today!

Oh and before you leave, I have a process video of how this layout came together if you'd like to see:

Thanks again!

Guest Designer Sheri Twing

Welcome to May!  It's a new month, and that means we have a new Guest Designer joining us!  I'm so excited to introduce you to Sheri Twing!  I discovered Sheri's work through Hip Kit Club, and fell in love with the fun Mixed Media she adds to her layouts.  They are always full of bright colors, great layers, and usually photos of her super cute grandson!  And Sheri has an amazing layout to share with us today, but first let's get to know a little bit more about her!

Hello, my name is Sheri Twing and I am thrilled to be guest designing for The Cut Shoppe. I have been scrapbooking for over 15 years after a friend introduced me and I’ve been hooked ever since. I have a love for photos so scrapbooking was a perfect fit.  I also love the creative outlet it provides me. I live in Tennessee with my husband. We have a married daughter and one grandson. When I’m not scrapbooking, you can find me taking walks with my hubby, spending time with family or shopping!

And here is Sheri's awesome layout, using the Spin Cycle background cut file and the Spring Fever cut file.

How fun is this layout!  I love the bright colors on the Spin Cycle background cut file, layered over the Black cardstock.  And, such a fun idea to add the photos and patterned papers to the centers of the circles!

Sheri, thanks so much for sharing your work with us!  You can find more of Sheri's work on her YouTube Channel.  She has lots of great tips for adding Mixed Media to your layouts!
