You

Hello everyone. Enza here with a new layout featuring a background cut file: Sketchy Scallops.

I have to admit I struggled a little with this page. The main reason was that I really wanted to create a summer layout with a non-summery collection. It is definitely easier with a themed line, where patterned papers and embellishments are designed to give you a specific look, but I couldn’t resist the beauty of the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Wild at Heart collection that came in my June Clique Kits.

I started by picking patterned papers that reminded me of summer. A light aqua one with white drops/polka dots to give the idea of water for the bottom portion of the page, and an ombre pink one that made me think of sunsets for the top part. I used them to back my cut file, making sure to leave some areas empty for the background paper to show through.

My idea was to continue the same color scheme throughout the page by choosing embellishments that matched the background. All the different tones of pink were kept on the top, while the aqua/blue ones were used in the bottom section. It was like working on two different layouts at the same time ;)

The layers behind the photo include both colors, but I still tried to keep them separate as much as I could.

Enamel dots, flair buttons and wood veneer pieces finished the layout.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my process and I sure hope that this layout gives you a feel of summer somehow. Don’t forget to check TheCut Shoppe Etsy store for more inspiring cut files.

Thank you for stopping by.

Guest Designer | Devra Hunt

Happy Monday everyone!  We've got an awesome Guest Designer to introduce to you today, Devra Hunt!  I have be online friends with Devra for a loooonnngggg time!  We met years ago on the Creating Keepsakes Message Board, and she is an amazing scrapper!  Before we take a look at Devra's layout, let's get to know a little bit more about her.

Hey there! My Name is Devra Hunt. I live in Seattle, WA with my husband, two teenage boys and of course, or dog Snickers.  Playing with paper, scissors and glue keeps me sane, and also gives me a way to provide proof of our crazy family life. I love the flexibility of cut files and use them all the time. Besides scrapbooking, other things that make me happy are reading and baseball.

Thanks so much for joining us Devra!  Now let's see what she has created, using the Sketchy Scallops background cut file!

I dont know about you, but back to school feels like the start of a new year to me. The summer is all about family, September is all about getting back to me. This layout is a playful way of reminding myself how I feel right now.

I started by scaling the file to about 9"x9".  I like to alter things to suit my needs. I took the finished file, then cut it apart so I could layer the scallop strips. I used them above the photo upside down,

and below my photo, right side up.

The layered scallops turned out exactly as I has imagined and they added just the right touch to my page.

What an awesome way to use the cut file Devra!  We love your layout!  You can find more of Devra's amazing work by visiting her Blog, My Creative View!

Sandy toes and salty kisses

Hi there scrappy friends,

Zsoka back again with you with a new layout for The Cut Shoppe!

My most favourite photos to scrap are our summer photos so I was going through some folders and picked a really old one of my boyfriend (and me! can you find me?!) from before our son was born. I love this photo! Of course it was taken in our most favourite places in the whole wide word, Barcelona, Spain! We haven't been there in two years so I guess that's the reason I am scrapping these photos! By the time you read this post however, we will be in Barcelona lying on the beach hopefully yay :).

I really wanted to use this super cool new cut file, Sketchy Scallops, but didn't want to back it with patterned papers like I normally do, I just wanted to use it as a layer in the background. I also wanted to use a big summer related title, for which I chose the Open Letter Alpha that I stretched so the letters are taller and welded the letters together. Mainly because I'm lazy and didn't want to back every single letter separately, ha! I then backed these with a variety of paper scraps from my stash. My background paper is from the Crate Paper Poolside collection if I'm not mistaken. It was one of my favourite papers last summer so I still have several sheets :).

Since the cut files add plenty of interest to the page, I didn't really want to add an awful lot of embellishments. However, I still HAD TO add some because well...I cannot do without ha! I found an old travel themed chipboard sheet from Crate Paper which I barely used and picked out a frame and some smaller pieces to add next to my photo. I love the colors of these chipboards and they went with my papers perfectly I think!

I hope I could inspire you in one way or the other! Get your die cutting machines out and get cutting! Enjoy your summer guys! See you soon X
