Tone-On-Tone Technique | Elsie Robinson

Hey friends, it's Elsie here! One of the things I was most excited about creating when I got my cameo was backing cut files... I know that really doesn't sound all that exciting, but I love to take my time and do some mindless and repetitive tasks when I'm crafting! I find that so relaxing.

And so that's what I focused on for today's project! Here's my layout:

I needed some downtime the other evening, and was in the mood to be creative without having to think too much about what I was doing. And so backing a cut file was the perfect creative task for me to do!

I created this cluster of hearts using the gorgeous Pie Hearts cut file set. In my Silhouette software I arranged the hearts into a design that I liked, welded them all together and cut the design from white cardstock.

Then I put a movie on and had a really great evening backing all of the sections of the hearts!

I love this technique because it means I can use lots of patterns and colours in a controlled and neat way. But to really simplify the whole process I separated the hearts into three clusters and assigned them a colour and only used papers of that colour in each heart.

This worked out perfectly because I had ten hearts in my design, so there were three hearts for each of the three colours and one for my photo.

I primarily used the Maggie Holmes 'Carousel' collection on this page and to embellish I only used the pink, yellow and blue embellishments. I clustered all of the embellishments around and on top of their matching coloured hearts.

This tone-on-tone technique keeps the embellishing process super simple, as well as adding loads of detail and dimension to a page with very little effort. It also makes the cut file stand out and be the "star" of the page and is also a really great way to stash-bust!

I also used the outline of one of the clouds from the April Showers set and cut that several times in different sizes from white cardstock. Although the cut file and embellishments made this page plenty busy, I couldn't resist adding a few clouds to make this page even more whimsical... what can I say?!

Thanks for stopping by today everyone!

Yes

Good morning! Michelle here with you today to share a new layout featuring an oldie but goodie--the Pie Hearts Cut File--which is probably my favorite and most used cut file from The Cut Shoppe

The Pie Hearts cut file consists of three heart icons, that can be used on your scrapbooking and paper crafting projects.

What makes this my most used cut file, is that it makes a good embellishment.  Whenever I  feel like a project needs a simple and classic embellishment to help make a focal point, this set of hearts almost always comes to mind. They are also super versatile. I can enlarge one and back with patterned paper to make an impact or I can use them in a smaller sizes to move the eye around the page like I did in this layout:

Now, the only challenge I have when using these hearts is adhering them. If I want them flat on my page--no problem--however, I usually want at least one popping off the page and this requires some sort of foam adhesive. Most of the time I only have foam squares available, which are too big. What I do though is simply cut them up with my scissors into small strips to layer underneith the thin lines of the hearts as you can see here, in this photo.

How about you--Do you have any special method for making your cut files dimensional or do you roll like me and alter foam squares??  Whatever gets the job done, right? Wishing you a happy day!

Simple Stories & The Cut Shoppe Product Swap Day 6!

Hello and welcome to day six of the Simple Stories and The Cut Shoppe team up! I'm excited to share three projects with you today, all using the beautiful We Are Family collection from Simple Stories and some fun cut files from The Cut Shoppe!

For this first layout, I used the Word Art and A Banner Day cut files. I love all the words that come with "Word Art"! I added lots of fun layers using stickers and the Bits & Pieces from the We Are Family collection, and then I experimented with some yellow paint splatters to complete the look.

Next, I cut out a giant heart from the Pie Hearts cut file. I backed each piece of the pie heart with a different patterned paper. I left one piece open to place my photo in.  After it was all filled in, I adhered the heart onto a paper splattered with coordinating mist. I kept the rest of the layout pretty simple, just using stickers to title and embellish it.

My third layout uses the Sweet Hearts and Picture Perfect cut files. I loved the string hearts in the patterns of the paper, and loved that the Sweet Hearts string art heart matched them! Once I had my photo and string hearts placed, I built the layout around it. I tried to fit as many hearts as I could onto the page!

Thank you for letting me share my layouts with you! I've hope you have enjoyed this wonderful week of inspiration on the Simple Stories and The Cut Shoppe blogs! In honor of our collaboration, The Cut Shoppe is having a 30% off sale through September 15th. Be sure to check it out!

I love the eye-catching look Stephanie created by using a White background for her layout and adding pops of color by backing the hearts from the Pie Hearts cut file.  And the La La La Love You phrase made a perfect title to go along with the sweet photo on her layout!

Flip Flopping

Hi everyone,  Gina here today to share a brand new layout that I created using some super cute files from the shop.

Life is Better in Flip Flops

I don't know about you, but I could wear flip flops or sandals all year long.  I used the fun flip flopping cut file to create my title for my layout.  I used the pie charts cut file to create those adorable hearts and backed them with some fun patterned papers from the Amy Tangerine Plus one collection.

This layout came together rather quickly because of all the fun cut files added so much that I didn't need to add much more.  See those fun little plus signs that I stitched on to the layout.  Those are leftover pieces that I saved from another project that uses the Plus Infinity background cut file.

Stop by The Cut Shoppe to pick yours up today!

SEVEN

Hi!

Today I'd like to share a LO that I put a lot of love in :) I used the fabulous "Pie Hearts", only I made one heart REALLY big :) Then, as you can see I used a few different patterned papers to fill it up, did some sewing and went on putting a few embellishments on.

I LOVE this cut file, and can see myself using it a lot in the future.

Hope you found some inspiration here today, and don't forget to stop by the shop today!
