Splash | Kelly Janes

Hey there friends! Kelly here with you today to share a new summer themed layout using the Make a Splash Cut File!

I cut the title, Splash, on a sheet of white cardstock that I had colored using a couple different Shimmerz Sprays & Distress Oxide Inks. I then adhered the title to another piece of white cardstock that I had painted light blue using a brayer. I also hand stitched around the title for a little more visual interest and texture.

I had originally planned to use the painted cardstock as my background, but I just couldn't get the design to flow. So I decided to switch up the design, and cut a large sun from the Make a Splash Cut File on a piece of yellow/orange patterned paper. I adhered the sun to another sheet of white cardstock, tore the painted cardstock with the word Splash, and adhered that painted cardstock on top of the sun.

I then embellished the layout with a few summer themed stickers and die cuts from Amy Tangerine and called the layout complete!

Now you can take a look at my process video to see how this layout came together.

Thanks so much for spending part of your day with me, and don't forget to head to The Cut Shoppe Etsy Store to check out all of the cut files!

Make a Splash

Hello friends!  Candace with you today to share a little summer inspiration in my travelers notebook. I love documenting little moments in my travelers notebook and this was perfect!  To complete my spread I used the Make a Splash file you can check it out in the shop here

To start the spread I printed out my photo at 5x7.  I knew I wanted to place the photo in the center of the spread so I cut down the center of the photo at 3.5 inches and placed each half on the spread.

For the title I placed a piece of the file on the upper right hand corner along with a few embellishments from Elle's Studio.

I added my journaling on a tag in the lower left hand corner tucked in-between a few of the waves in the file.

I love the simplicity of travelers notebook spreads and the sweet moments that can be captured and documented.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Give documenting your little summer memories in travelers notebooks a try and get creative!

Let's Go Play

Hello there!

The weather is getting nicer and warmer by the day!  All I have been thinking about is Summer, vacation, and lots of family time.  With that in mind, I chose the Make a Splash, and Let's Talk Summer cut files to document a picture of my daughter and the little enjoying some pool time last summer.

It all stared with the Make A Splash cut file, which was used to create the waves in the page.  I chose to stitch the image, and then used some watercolor to shade in the waves.

To create the title, the Let's Talk Summer cut file was used to create the "Let's Go" word outlines.  The  cut out was then backed with papers from Echo Park's "Summer Fun"collection.   The same collection was used to add small details around the picture and the entire page.

I  really hope this brings a little bit of inspiration, and you start dreaming of all the summer memories you are about to create, and a way to document them.  Remember there are lots of designs available at the Cut Shoppe store, that can make you memory-keeping easy and unique.

Thanks for stopping by today!!

First Ride

Hi there scrappy friends,
Zsoka here with you today with a new layout.
When I saw the new bike cut file, I knew I wanted to use it right away. I already did a bike layout last year, using my favourite Fancy Pants Good Fellows collection, but for this one I wanted to use a feminine line full of flowers, because of the basket filled with flowers in the new Full Bloom cut file! I also used some other cut files:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/240626846/the-make-a-splash-cut-file-includes-5?ref=shop_home_active_59

I blew up the cut file and cropped the front of it.
Since I already had Paige Evans' Oh My Heart collection on my table when I started working on this, I just went with that collection again. I went through the papers and found the perfect one for my wheels! Or at least I think I did! :) It's a shame I had to cut up two 12x12" papers just to get the right pattern but I still have one left, so it's OK, it was all worth it.

I adhered my bike to the background and hand stitched around the wheels to give them extra definition. I also glued enamel dots in the middle of my wheels, mostly for fun :).

I then fussy cut loads of different size flowers from one of the patterned papers and added these to my basket and also to the front of the bike. Some I popped up using some foam adhesive so they have a bit of dimension.

Looking at the layout at this point, I felt like the top was too empty and I wasn't planning to put my title there. After brainstorming with a friend I decided to add a sun and some clouds. Cheesy, yes?! I hand stitched around the sun and adhered it to my page with foam adhesive. The clouds I left as they were, didn't back them, just to have a bit of airy feel to them.

For my title I used the alpha thickers from the same collection. I was a bit hesitant to add my journaling where it is now, because the whole layout was kind of straight and this spot was tilted. But I took a deep breath and started writing...I actually like how it turned out.

I don't do such themed layouts often anymore, but I thought it fits my photo, since my son was just a baby back then.
I hope you found some inspiration here today! Thank you for stopping by! X

Rock&Roll

Hey there scrappy friends,

Zsoka here with you today with my first layout for The Cut Shoppe! I am so honored to be here! If you know my work, you know that I use cut files in some form on about 98% of my layouts and I've been using The Cut Shoppe cut files pretty much since I started to scrapbook last year!

I never plan out my layouts, I usually don't know where I'm going with them when I start. Generally I open up Silhouette Studio, look at my cut files and see what inspires me at that moment. I more often than not have no idea what photo I will scrap at this point. Sometimes I just feel like doing some hand stitching. Again, no particular plans on my mind what they will be turned into. With my first layout this is what happened. I wanted to do some hand stitching and for some reason the Make A Splash cut file jumped out at me. I think I haven't used it before! I chose the sun and cut three different sizes from different papers from Paige Evans' Fancy Free line for Pink Paislee.

Because this was going to be quite a lot of stitching, I used the perforate tool (after adding an internal offset to my design) to score the paper. This was the first time I did this and I will be honest, I was quite disappointed with the results! When I use my paper piercer my stitching looks much nicer, granted, it also takes much longer!

Once I was done, I layered my suns on my pink background paper, stitched down the biggest one, then added some foam in between the layers to add some dimension. Then I was looking at the layout for hours wondering what was wrong with it... I just didn't like something but I could not put my finger on what exactly...Then I took a deep breath and cut around the stitching, removing my background paper. Yes I wasted a sheet of Fancy Free paper! While cutting through under my biggest sun, I accidentally tore the paper in a couple of places...I wasn't going to redo it that's for sure :). So how to cover up those spots?! I wrapped some embroidery floss around them...I think it actually looks nice! Happy accidents :).

I then went through my other FF papers and found one I did some mixed media work on but never used because I didn't like it for what I intended to use it. And it was perfect!!! I really liked that there's just a bit of mixed media peeking out from under the sun. I don't know about you but I love when I find something in my stash that has been there forever and finally I find a use for it!

To finish it off I added my title and some embellishments: chipboards, tags, puffy stickers and buttons. Done!

I hope you like my first project for The Cut Shoppe! Should you have any questions, just ask in the comments! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day! X

Dive In & Swim

When a group of swim team friends gathered together for a picture at their end-of-the-summer-season party, it made for quite a colorful snapshot. I brought all those colors back when I created the layout below.

To contrast with the vivid papers and embellishments of my page, I cut a title and star flourish from black cardstock, using the Make A Splash and Let's Make Music cut files from The Cut Shoppe:

To tone down the stark black of the cardstock cuts, I spritzed them both with white mist. They still made quite a statement!

I love the contrast of black and white with the saturated teal, yellow and red of the patterned paper, enamel dots, tags, and acrylics. It's a wonderfully bold look, a look that works well for my colorful photo!

Beautiful

Happy Tuesday! Laura here, bringing you another little taste of paradise your way. One of the days, on my Costa Rican adventure, we went kayaking in a mangrove estuary. There was just a sliver of mangrove trees separating this channel from the ocean. I live in the Pacific Northwest and LOVE the coast! It is often cold, windy, rainy and the water turns your toes numb in a few minutes. This was a different section of the Pacific, for sure! The water was so warm and the sand dark and silky. There wasn't much wind and, as you can see, thunderstorms were brewing, which means it was really humid. Whilst waiting for our kayaks to be prepared, we strolled over to the beach to take a look. It was so beautiful!

I decided that making a mosaic using Quirky Quilt was the perfect background for this scene. It's a great cut because it comes with 3 versions, the full cut and 2 cuts with just some of the patterns. I used the full cut with white cardstock and that became my frame. I laid it down on a piece of nice patterned paper, then I cut the blue from one of the 2 partial pattern files and used foam tape to add them into their places inside the frame. Hint: try to remove just the frame from this step, leaving the patterns still on the mat. Then lay your mat close to the frame you'll be filling, so you can tell where each piece goes without a lot of thought. I added the pieces in whilst watching tv and had no trouble.

I used the waves from Make A Splash and Life's A Beach to add in both color and a relevant embellishment. I cut them from plain white card stock and misted them with some shimmer mist, then sprinkled some of the same mist to the background. A few beach themed bit here and there and a super fun wood title completed the piece.

Stop by the shop and pick up these cut files today! I love all three and use them a lot. Thanks for stopping by.
